Oblong Desk - Episode 9 - Now 27 "Ballady Hell"
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Noax and John dust off Spring 1994's offering from Mr Abram and co, with its curious mix of reggae-tinged pop, bland Fisher Price R&B, and several lesser-remembered artists who were going to be the Next Big Thing and then weren't.
Find out what we would have prefered to be on the album, who's won a Warnock, and whether there were any tracks worthy of being our "favourite". Plus fashion and home decor tips from Phil Collins, and an uncanny impression of Fatman Scoop.

Incidentally, Matty is still gigging as Credit To The Nation. He seems a lovely chap, but has few memories of the early 90's due to smoking prodigious amounts of *whistles*. He also has to perform with a lyric book - not a great look. His damaged memory did lead to an amusing moment when a friend who had met him a few times, and was deriving some kudos from being 'great mates' with MC Fusion grabbed him as he walked by us at the 100 Club only to be met by utter confusion.

I think the skip button would be getting a workout if were listening to the CD, but a few unexpected corkers on Now 27. I know I played Hey Jealousy a fair bit on URN, as well as Mrs Rita, but don't remember the other two Gin Blossoms 'hits'. I also purchased the Deep Forest album, but may have kept this quiet at the time for Metäl Crëdibility reasons. In total agreement on Primal Scream being the indie Nickelback, and also on the brilliance of Credit To The Nation.
